Professor Sir Gerry McCormac is the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Stirling. He took up post in May 2010, having been a Pro Vice-Chancellor at Queen’s University Belfast from 2001–2010.
Gerry is a scientist by way of academic background, having undertaken research into both Space Physics and Carbon Dating. He also worked on the NASA Dynamics Explorer satellite programme at the University of Michigan.
Sir Gerry was knighted in the New Year’s Honours list 2021 for services to education and the economy. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE) the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) the Royal Society of Arts, Commerce and Manufacturers (FRSA) and the Society of Antiquaries (FSA). He is a Board Member of the Carnegie Trust and a former convenor of ÌðÐÄÊÓƵ Scotland.
Throughout my career I’ve had the pleasure of teaching, researching, and collaborating with some of the most interesting, talented and generous people. Working in higher education and having the opportunity to help educate students has been a privilege.
